IV Therapy - Naturopathic Doctor - Elmira Francinelli
IV Therapy administers an individually balanced combination of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, plant extracts into the bloodstream.  When we ingest nutrients orally in the form of tinctures, capsules or tablets, in some cases your body is unable to absorb a therapeutic dose via the gastrointestinal tract. When preparations of nutrients that are tailored to your individual needs are injected intravenously, they bypass the digestive organs and the liver so they have a direct action on the tissues and cells in your body directly through the circulation.

In chronic conditions where the digestive function is compromised and in a diagnosis of cancer, large doses of nutrients can be delivered safely and comfortably in combination with your conventional treatment protocol from your medical doctor or oncologist. In acute infections, smaller doses can be used to boost your immune system.

IV Therapy can be used safely and effectively for a variety of conditions and has numerous benefits including improving the immune system, stimulating memory and concentration, and improving energy. IV Therapy can be used in:

How do treatments work?
Treatments your doctor may recommend range from a simple I.V. push (IVP) to a larger dose of vitamins and minerals. The IVP can contain vitamins, minerals which are injected over a 10 to 15 minute period of time. Larger doses of nutrients are given through I.V. drip, which may require one to two hours of relaxing in a pleasant and comfortable environment.  Aside from the gentle, initial prick, these treatments are generally painless and patients enjoy a restful experience during the treatment.

The benefit of IV Therapy versus oral supplementation of pills is that the IV treatments are much quicker than spreading a number of supplements throughout the course of your day.

Secondly, because the nutrients are not encapsulated, they can bypass the organs of digestion and enter the circulation directly.  This increases their ability to be delivered to the cells and tissues that need them most especially in conditions where the digestion is compromised such as in cancer patients, or those with Crohn’s disease or Ulcerative colitis.

Thirdly, higher doses of nutrients can be delivered to the organs that need them without causing any side effects that equally high doses of oral supplementation would cause.  For example, taking vitamin C orally in high doses can cause diarrhea but the IV administration of Vitamin C will decrease side effects from occurring.
